That's a hard one. Edward is so cold when he's himself that I have a hard time seeing him use any sort of endearment. Sex with him seems like it would be a rough affair punctuated with a lot of commands and few gentle words. If you really want something, though, I think you should aim for a unique name that is designed specifically for the woman (man?) in question.

Yeah, I was kinda leaving towards sweetheart. Or maybe sweetness? I like that one a lot, too. I've just never been a huge fan of baby. It just makes me think of... well you can figure it out I'm sure. *shudders*

lol, I can see it going either way with him to be honest. If it's just fulfilling the need then it'd probably be a rough-and-tumble affair with some commands tossed in there, but I think if he really cared about the person (and not like Donna with that "as much as he can" bull-honky) then I think he could be tender and sweet. It's all about how much he could unwind and relax and really trust the person he was with. Maybe I've put way too much thought into this? ^_^

I've always thought "Baby" sounded kinda skeezy coming from anyone...lol

I've put a lot of thought into Edward having sex, too... (for science!) and I also believe that it would go either way, depending on the situation. I'm a firm believer that Edward (even the early Edward) is not completely cold. I think that if he was with someone he could completely trust, then he could love and be tender and gentle with that person if that is the scene that was set... now that is not to say that he could not be rough and commanding with that person, too, bc who doesn't like it rough now and again... but of course the affection would still be there, so it would not be like his "just another need" type sex.

Every time I hear someone refer to a lover as 'Sweetness' I throw up in my mouth a little. It's what my mother called her cat. And yes, I threw up over that, too.

As for considering this issue for the sake of science, that goes without saying. What other reason would you consider such a thing? Giggle

I suppose Edward does have his protective side, but then I see him acting like he does with Donna, which is so not Edward. Like you said, he would need someone he could trust to let down his guard enough to be gentle-Edward. That's obviously not Donna since he can't even tell her the truth about himself. It would be someone stronger, who could stand up for herself and wouldn't need him to protect her - and probably wouldn't care too much for being called a pet name. Of course, Anita puts up with it and so does another favorite character of mine, who would never put up with it from anyone but her man. Hmmm...I've talked myself in a circle. Well, glad I could help. LOL.

Definitely see Edward driving something low, black, and Italian that purrs like a kitten and has more weapons than a James-Bond-mobile. Understated, not showy, with blackout windows.

Endearments I could envision him using in various circumstances and with various partners:

Sweetheart or Angelface (Bogey-esque)
Precious (but not too Smeagol-ish)
Wench
Sugar
Bitch
Kitten
Woman

I love that "wench" and "bitch" are listed as endearments. roflol

If only she would tolerate something like that, I would totally use it! I did consider using Angel or Precious, but I'm really leaning towards Sweetheart. It just seems the most like him, given the situation they'll probably be in when it comes up. I still have another chapter or two so I can decide before I get there, thankfully.

I'm envisioning a deadly growl as Edward stares down the bad guy, but talks to his girlfriend. "Sweetheart, come stand over here by me." YOu know, with enough menace that she finally realizes something's not right. THen I could see him using Sweetheart.

Yeah, there are 12 chapters already posted. If you go to the "most recent" in the archives, it is at this very moment the second story from the top. It's a good one so far. I've been following all of xDeaDesdemona's fics since I joined. She does great work with Edward. big grin
